The book’s primary impetus comes from Al’s two decades as a management consultant to thousands of people, teams and organizations worldwide. The book’s genesis also stems from his experiences with his daughter Ashley, who has Down syndrome. The chapter about Ashley speaks to the paradox that a disabled person like Ashley can be, and in fact, has been a great gift to all who know her. Many of the most important lessons in life, business and sports are similarly counter-intuitive. This is the first book of its kind to tackle the counter-intuitive nature of life’s most important lessons.
